Dear all,

Here go the instructions for the free post (post number 7).

1. Choose a topic.
2. Discuss it, give your opinion, say what you like about it (for example a movie, an activity, etc.)
3. 250 words Deadline Thursday November 25.

Post number 8 (Final Essay):


This essay will be written in the computer laboratory on Thursday 18.

You can choose to write about any of the following topics:

1. Your experience learning English at the Faculty (general reflection).
2. The use of technologies within different subjects you´ve studied this year.
3. Chile 2010: What are your views on Chile´s bicentennial year?

Essay structure:

-Introduction (about 80 words)
- Body: 2 or 3 paragraphs (about 200 words)
- Conclusion (about 70 words).

I´m happy to see that most of you enjoyed Dr. Maldonado´s talk so much. The idea now is to write a post about the talk. You may focus on one or several of the myths Dr. Maldonado discussed. How do you think this new knowledge will impact you as a student and future health professional?

Dear all,

Today's task is to write a summary from an article about your discipline (midwifery or physical therapy). To do so follow these instructions:

4. Provide the link to the article

5. Write comments to 2 of your classmates

This will be done in the computer lab in class. Deadline Thursday 7 at 16.00!!

Also, for next week you should write a 250-300 post about STRESS. You may refer to what stress is, how it affects people's life, how it affects your life, etc. Deadline, Thursday 14 before class.

Finally, on Tuesday next week we are going to have the talk by Dr. Lorena Binfa, which had originally been planned for September 7.

Next two posts

Dear all,

First, I´d like to thank Prof. Laura Castillo and Guillermo for taking over on Thursday while I was ill. And, a big THANK YOU to Dr. Carlos Valenzuela for his great talk (thanks Guillermo for the recording and for the movie!!).

Congratulations to the people who have already posted, even without my instructions. I was pleased to see that both the movie and the talk seem to have had some effect on you.

To those of you who were waiting for my instructions, here they are:

1. Post 2: You should write about SICKO. Say what you liked, what you didn´t like (about the film, the activity, etc.). Refer to the French/English Health System. Compare with the Chilean system and say what can be done to improve it. Deadline Thursday, September 23. Max. 250 words.

2. Post 3: Dr. Valenzuela's talk. Say what aspects you found interesting. What is the main issue Dr. Valenzuela discussed? Why is this topic so controversial? What is Dr. Valenzuela's view point about the use levonorgestrel? What is your understanding and opinion now after listening to Dr. Valenzuela´s talk? When is levonorgestrel used? What is the difference between contraceptive and anticontraceptive? Do you think this talk will impact your future as a health professional? If so, how?

Deadline September 23. Max. 250 words.

First, I haven´t linked everybody´s blog to mine yet. Please be patient. Also, the second post will be uploaded on Tuesday, and it will be about the film that we are going to see. This is an obligatory activity in charge of Guillermo, our assistant. After the film you´ll have 5 days to write your second post. The third post will be about Dr. Valenzuela's talk which is on Thursday.

First free post term 2-2010

Welcome to the Intermediate English course. This term we have a mixture of students again, which makes the learning experience more interesting. In terms of writing, you´ll have to write 8 posts in total, 3 in class and 5 at home. Some of them will be free posts, some of the topics and genres will be given to you (summaries, essays, etc.).

This time you should write about the book or movie you´ve liked the most. You have to say why you like it so much, when you read it/watched it, who recommended it to you, what aspects you found interesting, etc.

Wordcount: maximum 250 words.
Deadline: Thursday 26 before class.

Example:

My favourite book ever...

My favourite book ever is one by Paul Auster called the "The book of Illusions". It is a story about a man whose life revolves around the film making industry, but one day he vanishes....Nobody can find him. But I won´t tell you the story so that you read the book. I think the book was a birthday present. I had read another book by the same author before, and had liked it very much too. I like this book because from the beginning it invites you to an imaginary world where reality and fantasy get mixed up. It is full of unexpected events and the characters are very powerful and unique. I strongly recommend it to you. etc. etc.
